DH and a newsite

I'm really quite unhappy with DreamHost lately. Everything is so slow. I'm working to redesign the DH Videography site (video.iamdooser.org), but everything is so slow over at DreamHost: video.iamdooser.org/newsite/index2.php.

So far, I've been testing the speed of Union's VU hosts, things seems much faster: web.vu.union.edu/~harrisod/newsite/index2.php.

So please DreamHost, persuade me not to go elsewhere just to register my domains and end up hosting all my stuff at VU. Get some speed!

Oh so promising. Oh so desirable.

1. Google Phone is based on a mobile variant of Linux, and is able to run Java virtual machines.
2. All applications that are supposed to run on the Google Phone are java apps. The OS has ability to run multimedia files, including video clips.
3. The user interface is similar to a UI typical of mobile phones, and the image (with red background) floating around isn’t representative of the Google Phone UI. The entire UI is said to be done in Java and is very responsive. The UI, of course has a “search box.”
4. There is a special browser which has pan-and-browse features that are common to modern browsers such as browsers for iPhone and Symbian phones. The entire browser is apparently written in Java. But then others have told us that the browser is based on the WebKit core, the same engine in Safari and in iPhone, and Google has been making optimizations to speed it up. This is one aspect of the Google Phone I am not sure about.
5. Initially there was one prototype, but over past few months Google has the mobile OS running on 3-to-5 devices, most of them likely made by HTC, a mobile phone maker, and all have Qwerty apps. The model that folks have seen is very similar to the T-Mobile Dash. Around 3GSM, there were rumors that Google, Orange and HTC were working together on mobile devices.

Yes. I'm not updating as much as I used to, especially not video. I haven't even been watching as much video online, at least not 'vlogs' as they're called. There are a few special people I've kept up with, but I haven't necessarily posted comments or such.

FireAnt was great. Yes, past tense. It's not updated anymore, at least not for Mac. The developers have admitted to working only on Windows versions, as most people these days (and all other days, huh?) use Windows. I found this aggregator today, which looks promising. I'm not sure I could convince myself to switch over and start watching, but I have hundreds of feeds in FireAnt, many of which are no longer updated. Regardless, I can't keep up with them all. It'd be nice to start new and fresh, but I'd miss a lot of the videos I used to see so often. Ah well.

Anya Kamenetz alerts me of a recent article by Garrison, in which he states:

I am of a generation that believes in disaster; the younger generation does not. A Harris Interactive poll of Generation Y's feelings about work shows 92 percent want a "flexible work schedule," 96 percent want a job that "requires creativity," and 97 percent want a job that "allows me to have an impact on the world." All I can say is, Wow. Good luck. And now you know why we need illegal immigrants to do the inflexible uncreative stuff that simply needs doing right now. We've raised a generation of young people who want to be writers. Whassup? That's whassup, dude.

Hmmmm. Aren't you a writer Garrison? I don't appreciate ageism.

But I wonder, is this just a ploy? Garrison is usually quite respectable. I've always respected him, even though I dislike the majority of his work. He is held in high regard. It just seems far too obvious for him not to catch on to the fact that he's writing about himself. A creative job involving writing that impacts the world? Come on!

Always when I've encountered vegetarians, I ask why. I have yet to hear a reason that would persuade me to become a vegetarian. It's often "I don't think animals want to be eaten." Do you think plants do want to be eaten then? It just doesn't make much sense to me. The difference is a central nervous system? No, I don't buy it.

This reasoning, I buy. If nothing else, I won't be eating quite as much I used to.

It is important to me to experience other cultures, languages, lives, foods, and, most certainly, places. I see it as part of my work towards becoming a more rounded person. Unlike many people, whether they admit it or not, I do not care about my image or reputation. However, I must agree that it pleases me when others mention that they think of me as a 'good' person; I feel a sense of accomplishment. Often times, I will do things to alter another's perception of me, so that any reputation I may have with them might be shattered. I am instrinsically motivated. I enjoy things for the joy that they give me.

I often feel alone. Not because I am alone, but because those I am with, or those that wish to be with me, are extrinsically motivated. Even more so, because I am reminded of their betrayals.

This is a small glimpse into my visit to Portugal.
